I am always attracted to makeup palettes when I see them because they are just so pretty to look at and I always love colorful things but I've never been tempted to buy those HUGE palettes which have all the colors under the sun. That's because I know myself well enough to know that I'll never use more than half those colors. I prefer picking out single eyeshadows one at a time just to make sure they'll be used.
Then all those neutral/natural palettes came out one after the other and they were very tempting especially UD Naked 2 (more "me" colors. read: champagne), but frankly speaking, I don't wear e/s that often nor am I that great at putting them on so I couldn't justify the price tag on the Naked 2. Not yet, at least. I decided to get the Sleek i-Divine Palette in 601 Au Naturel. Let's start with this for practice, and if I get a lot of use out of this and if I get any better, maybe I'll move on to more grown up palettes.
Sleek is a UK Makeup brand that offers great products at irresistible prices. This palette is a great intro to the brand. I am lemming for their other products. Their blushes and lippies (no surprise here) look super nice.
True to its name, products are packaged in simple, classic black cases with a semi-matte finish. |
Palette contains 12 colors. |
I was confused as to why my palette looks different from the store's pictures. According to Sleek's website, they're pressing the shadows differently now. Too bad. I think the waffle hetchmarks really made the colors stand out and were a big part of what attracted me to this palette, but I guess they want the presentation as sleek as possible..
Random Thoughts:
- This palette has more flat/matte shades than shimmery ones, which makes it more wearable and versatile. I love shimmery eyeshadows but you can get them anywhere. Flat/Matte finishes are harder to find, (near impossible locally, to be honest.)
- 5/6 of the of the light colors (top row) are so pale and subtle, I had trouble swatching them on my skin. On the bright side, they are great for highlighting and helps prevent overzealous makeup users like me from having too much on.
- I was torn between this and Storm for my first Sleek palette. I like the top row of Storm better but Au Naturel won because I thought the former would have too many unwearable blues. Looking at that palette again, the dark shades are mostly slate and navy colors which I think are pretty wearable. I'll think about it again.
